
The Pearson Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification BTEC National in Medical Science (Extended Certificate) enables students to study the principles and applications of medical science through three mandatory units, and further explore other areas in more detail via an optional unit. Students will also learn practical and investigation skills that build on this fundamental knowledge. Students will complete 3 mandatory units and 1 optional unit. The mandatory units are; Unit 1 - Human anatomy, physiology and pathology Unit 2 - Health issues and scientific reporting Unit 3 - Practical microbiology and infectious diseases Optional Units are Unit 4 - Diseases, disorders, treatments and therapies Unit 5 - Biomedical science Unit 6 - Human reproduction and fertility. Medical science allows students to progress to higher education to progress to employment in various careers. Students can go onto study nursing, adult and child health, mental health, psychology and physiotherapy, midwifery and many more.
Grade 5 in Combined Science or two Grade 5s in Separate Science Grade 4 in English and Maths
There are two externally assessed units. Unit 1 and 2 are externally assessed. Unit 3 and the optional unit are internally assessed.
