Course summary

This course enables you to develop your independence and creativity with a focus on contemporary media. You start with an “Experience” project based on a list of possible starting points and you produce visual evidence using a broad, diverse and rich variety of photographic processes. During this time students will participate in guided workshops covering skills such as; how to use a DSLR camera, understanding visual elements, how to use digital software’s such as Photoshop and exploring the evolution of mainstream media and popular culture. You benefit from the guidance of two very experienced teachers who will provide regular challenging exercises and personalised support. This first project is continuously assessed to give you a clear indication of your standard and potential with a focus on developing skills and preparing you for A Level Photography. After this introduction students will explore a Mock Project investigating personal areas of interest in more depth to an A Level standard. This prepares them for the following ‘Personal Investigation’ Project which is initiated with a research trip to London, followed by creative workshops. This project accounts for 60% of their final A Level grade and requires students to navigate their own creative journey evolving from their research. Again, continuous assessment will ensure that you are fully informed of your progress at all times, which enables reviewing and refining to occur to ensure that you are performing as highly as possible. The 40% External Assignment Project begins on February 1st and is completed just before study leave after Easter.
