The course allows students to achieve the equivalent to one and a half A-levels allowing students to gain additional UCAS points, helpful for those wishing to continue in higher education. At Level 3, students develop their knowledge and understanding of the range of activities and environments within the sport sector and now have the opportunity to specialise in different aspects of sport performance and sport development. The focus remains on enhancing students’ employability, so all units are directly relevant to real life work situations.
Grade 4 in PE or Pass in Level 2 Cambridge
Three externally examined units (four for the Extended Diploma) and a choice of centre-assessed units moderated by OCR. The Foundation Diploma is the single award, and will include the units Sports Coaching and activity leadership, Nutrition and Diet for sport, Sports Injures and rehabilitation and Body Systems and the effects of physical activity. The diploma is a double award where you will study additional units such as Sports Psychology, and Performance Analysis. The students who opt for the Double award will be given the opportunity to complete the Extended Diploma during the course, gaining an additional A-level. The Extended Diploma includes Sports and Exercise Sociology, Improving Fitness and Working in Active Leisure Facilities. The units are graded as Pass, Merit, Distinction or distinction*. The qualification is graded at PP, PM, MM, MD, DD, DD*, D*D*.
