Course summary

A-level qualification covers a range of ethical, religious and philosophical issues, including: A range of applied ethical theories, moral issues and investigation into the nature of right and wrong/decision making (from a variety of perspectives including Christianity and Secular views). An in-depth study of Christianity A range of traditional philosophical material such as life after death, arguments for the existence of God, evil and suffering, religious and supernatural experience, religious language and miracles. The dialogue between Religion and Ethics and Religion and Philosophy in the modern world. Religious Studies is one of the most valuable subjects to study in the tumultuous and diverse society that we live in today. It is a highly regarded academic discipline that challenges and questions the essence of humanity. It uses and promotes higher level skills of critical analysis and reasoning to examine questions that have puzzled humans for centuries. It enables young people to develop their skills of evaluation alongside an understanding of morality, tolerance and diversity. We can’t promise answers, but we can promise an extremely enjoyable and challenging subject!

Entry requirements

Grade 6 in GCSE Religious Studies, full or short course.

How you'll be assessed

2 x 3 hour external exam at the end of the course of study. Assessment via descriptive, evaluative and synoptic essay writing. Formal internal mock examinations. No coursework, but continuous lesson assessment via essay.
