Course summary

The topics studied in the first year of the course are: Particles and Radiation, Waves, Mechanics and Electricity. In the second year of the course students will study: Thermal physics, Fields and their consequences, Nuclear physics, Astrophysics, and Medical Physics. Students will also complete a practical endorsement, although the result of this will be reported, it will not affect the A-level result. This will be assessed by teachers and will be based on direct observation of students’ competency in a range of skills that are not assessable in written exams.

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade 6 in Physics or Grade 66 in Combined Science and Grade7 in Maths
