Course summary

This course is an A Level Course. In this course you can expect to learn that Physics is an exciting and innovative subject which underpins many aspects of our lives. Physics empowers you with the ability to communicate complex ideas, search for patterns and step into a wide range of scientific and engineering related careers. Physics provides you with the problem solving and mathematical skills which are invaluable in the wider job market. Physicists continue to use their knowledge in many diverse areas, such as geophysics, healthcare, space exploration and astrophysics, to name but a few. Our students have the opportunity to visit CERN in Switzerland, where they learn first-hand from the physicists working at the cutting edge of atomic research. Past students have taken part in the Physics Olympiad and Engineering Enterprise schemes. Entry requirements

MINIMUM SUBJECT ENTRY REQUIREMENTS (in addition to the general 6TH form minimum entry requirements of 5 x grade 4 at GCSE/equivalent or above including maths and English): GCSE Combined Science: 6, 6 or Physics: 6 with a 2nd Science: 6 plus Maths Grade 6 and English Grade 5.

Exam Board Information: AQA Physics (7408) 1: Physics Written Paper 1: (34%), Written Examination, 2hours Core content: Waves, Mechanics, Particles and Radiation, Electricity, Measurements and their errors, periodic motion. 2: Physics Written Paper 2: (34%), Written Examination, 2hours Core content: Assumed knowledge from paper 1 plus Further Mechanics and Thermal Physics, Fields and their consequence, Nuclear physics. 3: Physics Written Paper 3: Physics practical skills, data analysis and one topic from: Astrophysics, Medical Physics, Engineering Physics, Turning points in Physics or Electronics (32%), Written Examination, 2 hours
