A Level History is analytical and highly academic. The course will allow you to understand the world you live in whilst also preparing you for future success at university or post A Level study. WHAT WILL I STUDY? The new linear specification for History allows you to study two major areas; Germany and Britain. The Germany module explores 100 years of German history and the Britain module will explore recent political events allowing you to understand the heated debates of today. In the A Level History course students are encouraged to investigate key historical issues from different viewpoints by analysing and interpreting source material. WHERE WILL THIS TAKE ME? History A Level students go on to study History, Politics, Economics and Law at University. History graduates can become employed in education, finance, law, publishing and management.
GCSE Grade 5 in History and 4 other GCSEs or equivalents at Grade 4 including English are required to be accepted onto the course.
80% Exams (40% each): • ‘Germany 1871-1991, The Quest for Political Stability’ 2hr 30min exam on interpretation analysis. • ‘Making of Modern Britain 1951-2007’ 2hr 30min exam on source analysis. 20% Coursework: • Tudors 1485-1603: 3000-3500 word investigation
