The media is one of the fastest growing industries in our modern world, and its reach grows with every advancement in modern technology. A Level Media Studies provides students with an opportunity to develop their evaluative and analytical skills of a variety of media products, and develop practical skills spanning a range of media forms. Students will find contemporary and diverse topics that engage them to develop research, problem solving and creative skills. WHAT WILL I STUDY? A-level Media Studies engages students in the in depth study of media products in relation to the four areas of the theoretical framework: • Media language • Media representation • Media industries • Media audiences Students are required to study media products from all of the following media forms: •Television •Film •Radio •Newspapers •Magazines •Advertising and marketing •Online, social and participatory media •Video games •Music video WHERE WILL THIS TAKE ME? This course will allow students to progress into a variety of media areas, such as production based degrees and theoretical studies in areas such as film, television, game software design and other creative degrees and can provide pathways into the industry.
Two examinations: • Media One: Advertising and Marketing/Media Industries and Audiences 2 hour examination worth 35% • Media Two: Forms of Media Written 2 hour examination worth 35% Non-Examined Assessment: • Creating a cross-media production worth 30%
