
Further Mathematics is designed for those students who have a real passion for mathematics. You should enjoy the challenge of a high-level subject and be open to new ideas and concepts. You should also be highly motivated and enjoy working independently. The course targets the very best mathematicians. Students studying AS Further Maths are taught in a combined class alongside our A Level Further Maths students. AS Further Mathematics would be an option for those who may require higher level Mathematics for university courses such as Economics as well as other Mathematics related courses but are not intending to study the full A Level Further Maths course. Examinations for this course will be taken in Year 12. The AS Further Mathematics course is assessed by 100% examination at the end of the course. The course comprises of three elements: Pure Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics.
To study AS Further Mathematics you must be studying A level Mathematics. You must have achieved a minimum grade 8 at GCSE and have an APS of 7.5 or above.
The course is assessed by 100% examination. Each element is assessed individually and carries equal weighting for the overall exam grade.
