Course summary

This course gives students the opportunity to gain a broad knowledge and understanding of, and develop skills in, the health and social care sector. The mandatory units within this qualification ensure that all students explore themes such as key aspects of human growth and development, and the experience of health and wellbeing. Students will also examine the human body structure and systems, normal physiological functioning, and the impact of common disorders. Through this course, students will be required to consider current interventions and the different professionals providing care and treatment to individuals. The course also gives an overview of the core principles, values and key legislation that underpin and influence the health and social care sector, and the effect of social determinants on an individual health status. Students will explore the importance of safe working practices, professional responsibilities and record keeping in maintaining safe environments and quality care in line with national standards in health and social care settings. The themes covered on this course are: - Human Lifespan and Development - Human Biology and Health - Health and Social Care Practice - Safe Environments in Health and Social Care This course is usually studied with at least 2 other A-level equivalent subjects at Level 3. - A Levels in Biology and Psychology, which could lead to a BSc (Hons) in Nursing, BSC Social Work, BSC Subjects Allied to Health etc. - A Levels in English and History, which could lead to a BA (Hons) in Primary Education. There are lots of other Higher Education courses that students’ progress to from this course, dependent on other subjects studied. Careers – Potential careers that students studying health could go into depending on subjects studied include; Child and Adult Nursing, Midwifery, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Support Work and Youth Work

How you'll be assessed

Students will be required to complete two examined units (2 examinations) and two internally assessed units (2 assignments).
