Course summary

The core content is Y12 and Y13 is: • Social issues and trends • Political and artistic culture • Grammar In addition, you will undertake the study of a literary text (Year 13) and a film (Year 12) and carry out an individual research project on a key question that interests you relating to the target language country. ASSESSMENT Paper One. Listening, reading & writing lasting 2 hours 30 minutes (50% of A level) • All questions are in the target language to be answered with non-verbal responses or in the target language. • There will 2 translations of at least 100 words each. One into English and the other into the target language Paper Two. Writing lasting 2 hours (20% of A level) • Two essay questions in the target language based on the set texts or film studied. Paper Three. Speaking- lasting 21-23 minutes that includes 5 minutes preparation time (30% of A level) • Discussion of a topic relating to social issues and trends, or political and artistic culture based on a stimulus card. • Presentation and discussion based on the individual research project. Dictionaries are not allowed at any stage of the examination. All examinations take place at the end of Y13. WHY CHOOSE TO STUDY A LANGUAGE? Students who have studied languages in the Sixth form have gone on to pursue diverse careers such as Law, Engineering, Journalism, Accountancy and Finance as well as teaching in the UK and abroad. We have links with Sixth Forms in San Sebastian, and we run an annual exchange trip to norther Spain.
