Course summary

The A Level Mathematics modules cover Pure Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics. Pure Mathematics - topics include proof, algebra, trigonometry, sequences and series, co-ordinate geometry and calculus. Mechanics and Statistics - topics include probability, averages, correlation, normal distribution, kinematics, statics, moments and vectors. A Level Mathematics is well received for any university course but particularly for science-based degrees, engineering, architecture, or for those involving statistics such as geography or psychology. Students considering taking Mathematics, Physics or Engineering at university will find it a considerable advantage to have a qualification in Further Mathematics also.

Entry requirements

Minimum five GCSE passes (grades 4 or 5) including English Language and Maths. Students must also meet subject specific minimum entry requirements (shown below).

How you'll be assessed

A Level Mathematics is assessed by examination in Year 13. There are three papers of 2 hours each. Two papers cover Pure Mathematics, one paper is Mechanics and Statistics.
