Course summary

Sociology is the systematic study of different social groups and institutions within society. Particular reference is made to the themes of socialisation, culture and identity; and social differentiation, power and stratification. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES/PROGRESSION Sociology trains you to answer the ‘what’, ‘how’ and ‘why’ questions about human societies, giving you a competitive edge in the job market and providing a strong intellectual background for students in the professions or business. Sociology may be particularly useful in a career working with people, e.g. the Public Sector, Health and Welfare Services, Education, Social work, Public Relations, Police, Criminology and the Legal Profession. However, it also equips you with a number of key skills that may be transferred to almost all careers.
