Chemistry helps us understand the chemical reactions that occur in everyday life. It gives us an insight into the potential reactions that can occur and can lead to new medicines. Topics covered include: The Core - A large number of topics across a range of disciplines within the field of Chemistry are covered in the core course. These topics include stoichiometric relationships; atomic structure; periodicity; chemical bonding; energetics. This body of knowledge together with scientific methods and techniques allows you to analyse, evaluate and generate scientific information.
Internal assessment Individual investigation: personal research, investigation and write up (worth 20% of the overall grade) External assessment The external assessment is comprised of 3 examinations Paper 1: 40 multiple choice questions (1hr and worth 20%) Paper 2: Data-based, short answer and extended response questions centred around the core topics (2.25 hrs, and worth 36%) Paper 3: Data-based, short answer and extended response questions centred around the additional topics (1.25 hr, and worth 24%)
