Performing - This unit gives students the opportunity to perform as soloists and/or as part of an ensemble. They will rehearse and refine performances on their chosen instrument or voice, developing technical control, expression, and interpretative skills and leading to an eight-minute public performance. Composing - This unit allows students to appreciate the process of creating music, producing two compositions. Appraising - The content is grouped into six areas of study, each of which contains two set works: Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Music for Film, Popular Music and Jazz, Fusions, and New Directions.
Music GCSE Grade 6 / Music Technology NCFE Level 2 Distinction PLUS Grade 6 in an instrument (may include voice) OR Evidence of subject ability if not previously studied (applicant to provide)
Component 1: Performing (9MU0/01) – 30% of the qualification Total performance time of 8 minutes Component 2: Composing (9MU0/02) - 30% of the qualification Producing two compositions - One free or free choice brief – min 4 min - One brief assessing technique – min 1 min - Together total min of 6 minutes Component 3: Appraising (9MU0/03) - 40% of the qualification • One written paper of 2 hours • Section A: Areas of study and dictation • Section B: Two essay questions
