Course summary

Course content The AQA AS/A level in Economics applies economic theory to support analysis of current economic problems and issues, encouraging you to appreciate the interrelationships between microeconomics and macroeconomics. Individual, Firms, Markets and Market Failure Economic Problem & Economic Methodology. Individual Economic Decision Making. Price determination in competitive markets. Production costs and revenues. Perfect competition, imperfectly competitive markets and monopoly. The labour market. The distribution of income and wealth, poverty and inequality. The National and International Economy The measurement of macroeconomic performance. How the macro economy works, the circular flow of income, AD/AS analysis. Economic Performance. Financial markets and monetary policy. Fiscal and supply side policies. The International Economy. Other skills developed The skills developed on the course include essay writing, data analysis and interpretation, the ability to evaluate information and the application of economic principles and theories to given problems. Career value Economics is a thriving and respected qualification. Economists can be found in a wide range of organisations and the subject complements many other A Levels. The majority of students who study the full A Level in Economics go on to study Economics or a related subject at degree level. A student’s view “Economics is a very interesting subject. You get to learn about the way the world works in terms of money and labour. It also involves the study of how we make financial decisions which I find very interesting to learn about. In my opinion, it is the most interesting subject that you can choose and I would highly recommend it to those who are interested in the subject."
