
Course content Fine Art may be distinguishable by the emphasis it places on aesthetic and intellectual purposes rather than on practical, functional and utilitarian considerations. This course covers a broad and developing area of study that includes painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, installation, performance and conceptual art and aspects of printmaking, photography and film. It utilises traditional, new and emerging media and processes and involves expressive use of a particularly wide range of materials, techniques and skills. Career value There are many career opportunities in Art and Design, often requiring further study on an art foundation course, further education or at university. AS Level Personal Creative Enquiry: 100% of total qualification Internally set /Internally marked / Externally moderated. Incorporates 1 Major Element: Practical Portfolio of Work. This component allows students opportunities to generate and develop ideas, research primary and contextual sources, record practical and written observations, experiment with media and processes, and refine ideas towards producing resolved outcomes. The practical work will consist of a portfolio of developmental work and outcomes, based on themes and ideas from personal starting points. A Level Unit 1 Personal Creative Enquiry: 60% of total qualification Internally set /Internally marked / Externally moderated. Incorporates 3 Major Elements: Supporting Studies, Practical Work and a Personal Study. Supporting studies and practical work will consist of a portfolio of developmental work and outcomes, based on themes and ideas from personal starting points. The personal study will be evidenced through critical written communication showing contextual research and understanding in a minimum 1000 words of continuous prose, which will contain integrated images. A Level Unit 2: Externally Set Assignment: 40% of total qualification Externally set / Internally marked / Externally moderated. The externally set exam incorporates 2 major elements: Preparatory studies and the 15 hour period of sustained focus (exam). Preparatory studies will consist of a portfolio of practical and written developmental work, based on the externally set assignment. During the 15 hour period of sustained focus, students will produce final outcome(s) extending from their preparatory studies in response to the externally set assignment, under examination conditions.
