Year 12 This is a broad and flexible course that incorporates many ways of approaching art. Students study a range of artist’s work spanning many periods and cultures. The first term of the course gives students the skills to work in many disciplines, including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, installation, photography, text, film and animation. Students are then required to create an artwork to be displayed at our annual exhibition in January. In Year 12 students pick their own theme to develop through research and practising with materials. Both preparation work and the outcome are assessed. Year 13 .The A level supports and challenges students to be more independent in preparation for further study. Much of Year 13 is self-directed with the student choosing the focus of their practice, supported through tutorials and practical advice by the expert teachers in the Art Faculty. Students are expected to complete a creative written study to support their practical outcomes. Depending on interest it may be possible for some Art students to take a specialist taught Textiles unit within the Art A Level. Students interested in this should let us know in the personal statement section of their application form. We organise day trips to London galleries and have a biannual residential trip abroad. Why Study? Our approach to this course is designed to give students the confidence, knowledge, and discipline to further their study of Art in higher education. Previous students have gone onto foundation courses in art and design, degrees in Art, Art history, illustration, photography and fashion, both in the UK and abroad. A Level Art is also the perfect complementary course for students who want a broad and balanced curriculum.
