Course summary

Year 12 In Year 12 the topics studied are: • Development of Practical Skills • Foundations of Physics • Forces and Motion • Electrons, Waves and Photons Year 13 • Newtonian World and Astrophysics • Particles and Medical Physics Assessment Methods: Students will sit terminal exams consisting of 3 papers at the end of 2 years. Paper 1 & 2 will last 2hr 15mins and have a weighting of 37% each towards the final mark. Paper 3 will last 1hr 30mins and has a weighting of 26%. The course has a non-exam assessed practical skills component which is reported separately from the final grade as a Practical Endorsement. Why Study? People are always impressed by a qualification in Physics. Potential careers are vast and varied. Some examples include; weather forecaster, sound engineer, astrophysicist, computer games designer, mechanical engineer & solicitor. Independent work in A Level Physics is very important as it can allow you to consolidate your knowledge and think about what is taught in lessons to understand topics better. If you like learning about facts but are also excited by possibilities of what might be happening in the universe, then A Level Physics is your subject.

Entry requirements

Grade 6 in Physics and 1 other Science or a grade 6 in Combined Science, Grade 7 in Maths. (You will need to take A Level Maths).
