
The OCR A Level Photography course is a comprehensive and engaging program designed to cultivate students' artistic and technical skills in photography. This course explores various aspects of photography, including historical developments, contemporary practices, and critical analysis. Students delve into a wide range of photographic and digital genres, such as portrait, landscape, documentary and experimental photography, allowing them to develop a diverse portfolio of work. In this course you will develop a wide range of skills including how to use an SLR camera, working in a photography studio, dark room photographic processes, photoshop, stop frame animation, film, digital portfolio creation and academic art writing and analysis. The course emphasises the importance of creativity, visual storytelling, and critical thinking. Throughout the curriculum, students are encouraged to develop a deep understanding of photography's cultural, social, and ethical dimensions. Assessment is through practical portfolio which contains written components. Elements of the Assessment are made under exam conditions. This course will provide you with opportunities to visit exhibitions across London and to exhibit your work at our annual A' Level Art exhibition every January. • Examination Students will complete a digital portfolio, a written personal study, exhibit their work each January and complete ambitious personal and group practical outcomes. The A Level comprises of one coursework unit (60%) and one externally set exam unit (40%). As the course progresses the student develops personal ideas and are supported through tutorials and practical advice by the expert teachers in the Art department. The A level photography course is linear. We do not offer AS level. • Why Study? Photography, as a subject is a creative, practical, artistic and intellectual endeavour. Learning photography has many benefits – it can help you enormously in your other studies by creating image and text lay-outs and in decoding the meaning within images. The study of photography can lead to a wide range of employment opportunities within media, commercial photography, art or academia. A Level Photography is also the perfect complementary course for students who want a broad and balanced curriculum. Our approach to this course is designed to give students the confidence, knowledge, and discipline to further their study of Photography or Art in further or higher education.
