This new course has been designed to develop key knowledge, understanding, and skills relevant to the subject. It will allow students to think creatively, innovatively, analytically, logically, and critically and to develop valuable communication skills that are important in all aspects of further study and life. It will ensure students develop transferable learning and skills, such as evaluation, planning, presentation, and research skills, that are important for progression to higher education and can be applied to real-life contexts and work situations. Furthermore, it will develop independence and confidence in applying the knowledge and skills that are vital for progression to higher education and relevant to the health and social care sector and beyond. There are three units that are assessed in Year 12: F090 – Principles of Health and Social Care (External Exam) F092 – Person-Centred Approach to Care (NEA Coursework) F093 – Supporting People with Mental Health Conditions (NEA Coursework) Additionally, there are a further three units in Year 13 that make up the Extended Certificate: F091 – Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care (External Exam) F096 – Supporting People in Relation to Sexual Health, Pregnancy, and Postnatal Health (NEA Coursework) F097 – Supporting Healthy Nutrition and Lifestyles (NEA Coursework) We want students who: May want to try something new or develop their knowledge and understanding of health and social care to progress into working in one of the care sectors. Students who take this subject need to be highly organized, hardworking, and committed to completing coursework to deadlines. It is also important that students can work independently as well as in groups.
At least an L2 Merit Grade in GCSE Health and Social Care. If not studied, Grade 5 in English and Grade 5 in Science.
This is a two-year course. Assessment will be through NEA coursework, which will be based on tasks set by the exam board, assessed by your teacher, and moderated by an OCR moderator. Assessment will also be by external examination at key points during the year, with the opportunity to resit if necessary.
