Welcome to Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre, City of London Academy
I warmly welcome you to our unique and inspiring Sixth Form college where young people are provided with exceptional academic and enrichment opportunities that enable them to develop their academic potential and the mindset and resilience to thrive as individuals ready to become the leaders of the future in their chosen professions. It is an honour to be appointed Principal at an institution nationally recognised as an Outstanding Sixth Form provider. The NCS was judged outstanding in all categories in our recent Ofsted report (October 2021) and has gained a local and national reputation as one of the consistently top performing Sixth Forms in the country securing some of the best outcomes and progress for its students. The NCS is a special place to learn and the Sixth Form’s continuing academic excellence is a testament to the enthusiasm and dedication of both staff and students. We have recruited highly qualified teachers, specialists in their disciplines with a passion for their subject. Our teaching and innovative Super curriculum programme goes well beyond the narrow confines of the examination specification, offering our students exceptional preparation to enter the top universities both in this country and abroad. Our teachers have extremely high expectations of their students, cultivating a deep understanding of their subject and love of learning. In return, students have high expectations of themselves. Education is transformational and what goes on in the classroom has the strongest impact on student outcomes. Our staff continually engage in research based professional development to ensure that pedagogy in the Sixth Form is rooted in best practice and at the forefront of educational thinking. We are fortunate to be located within an iconic Grade 2* listed building in East Ham, giving it a real Oxbridge feel whilst still maintaining a modern feel with cutting edge facilities. These include nine dedicated science laboratories, advanced technology (with iPads and stylus pens for each student), a university style lecture theatre and other superb facilities.Alongside a rigorous and challenging academic curriculum, the NCS offers unparalleled enrichment opportunities. Being part of the City of London Academies Trust (CoLAT) enhances the educational opportunities for our young people. We are fortunate to enjoy a strategic partnership with UCL, one of the world’s leading universities, which provides unique opportunities for our students and staff. Our Emerging Talent Programme and Professional Schools of Medicine, Finance, Law, Engineering, and Liberal Arts provide our students with unique opportunities to participate in work placements and receive expert, tailored support with university applications and national tests. Our strong partnerships with other prestigious universities, medical professionals, City law firms, investment banks and accountancy firms as well as a growing alumni network, provides a wealth of experiences, knowledge and skills to support students enter their chosen professions. The safety and well-being of our students is at the centre of what we do. We have a supportive pastoral system that focuses on developing the habits and dispositions that encourage resilience, reflection and self-esteem to deal with the challenges of modern life. All students have a supportive tutor and Year Leader who will listen to any concerns and our dedicated team of counsellors are on site to offer additional support for those who need it. The NCS is a place of learning that expects success in all areas – academically, in wider co-curricular life and in personal relationships. Students flourish in an ambitious and aspirational environment but crucially they also enjoy a friendly and caring community. In return, we expect students to be driven, committed and to have the highest expectations of themselves. I am confident that what we have to offer at the NCS will be attractive to the most able students who are highly motivated to succeed both personally and academically at the highest levels, and who want to make a positive impact on their communities and society in general. Please take the time to browse our website for further information and if you share our beliefs and aspirations then I look forward to receiving an application from you for a place at NCS starting in September.Ms A LomaxNCS Principal

Darnell
September 2014
Apprenticeship
"Darnell was the second student to enrol at The NCS on a summery August morning in 2014. He was taking a ‘leap of faith’ in joining a new and unproven sixth form built on a promise and vision. He then applied all the lessons and skills he gained with us and made another leap into the world of finance where he now has a thriving career in the City of London’s investment banking sector.
The NCS played a crucial role in solidifying Darnell’s journey into adulthood. He emphasises the importance of students learning from The NCS, not just academically but holistically. "

Samiya
September 2014
University
"Having your professional skills being built is one of the cornerstones of our Emerging Talent Programme. What Samiya learned and experienced in her two years at The NCS opened the door to one of the biggest corporate law firms in the world. She chose to join our first cohort of students in 2014, specifically for the professional skills tutoring that we provide. She loved how we tailor enrichment to each individual’s strengths and desired destinations.
During her time at The NCS Samiya enjoyed workshops at a wide variety of corporate law firms. After impressing senior associates and partners during work experience and having completed her solicitor legal practice course (LPC), she’s now joined White & Case on a training contract. "

Tafsia
September 2015
University
"Tafsia joined us from Sarah Bonnell and achieved A* / A* / A* / A* / A at A-Level. She went on to study Material Science and Engineering at MIT in America - the world’s greatest university - graduating in 2020. She has since worked on research at Beyond Meat in LA and now is working at a technology company in London as well as providing personal tutoring within STEM. She recently returned to The NCS to teach a coding course with fellow NCS/MIT graduate Isuf.
The NCS provided Tafsia with all the support she needed to achieve her goal of attending an Ivy League university. Her message of positivity and not being afraid to compete to get the best for yourself reverberates around the walls of our buildings, leaving many students now looking to emulate her successes. "
