Examinations 80% / Non-Examined Assessment (NEA) 20% Paper 1: Literary Genres Investigating ‘Aspects of Tragedy’ through the study of three texts: one Shakespeare play; a second drama text and one further text, of which one must have been written pre-1900. The assessment is by a closed-book written exam of 2 hours 30 minutes. Paper 2: Texts and Genres Focus on either ‘Elements of Crime Writing’ or ‘Elements of Political Writing’ through the study of three texts: one post-2000 prose text; one poetry and one further text, one of which must have been written pre-1900. The examination will include an unseen passage. The assessment is by an open-book written exam of 3 hours. Non-exam assessment – Theory and Independence Written response to two texts: one poetry and one prose, informed by theories raised within the Critical Anthology. The assessment requires the completion of two essays of 1250 -1500 words, each responding to a different text and linking to a different aspect of the Critical Anthology.
