Studying this subject opens numerous career pathways from musical performance, live sound (concert and theatre), composition, mixing, and mastering. It allows you to explore the technological and musical developments that have shaped how we record, compose, and produce music and develop as independent artists. You will have the opportunity to visit commercial recording studios, network and collaborate with like-minded artists, and learn how to develop your online presence as an artist through enrichment sessions. The course is delivered over 5 hours per week with additional enrichment opportunities by Mr A Millar. Work is set and marked via Google Classroom. Practice-based projects run throughout the course however theoretical work and case studies are also a feature of the A Level.
You must have achieved 5 passes including mathematics and English, where a pass is defined as GCSE 9-4 and pass or better at level 2 BTEC. It is desirable that students have achieved a minimum of a level 5/Pass at GCSE/BTEC. If not, further details may be required to discuss your previous experience or understanding of the subject.
At the end of the two years of study, students sit two exams, both of which are two hours long covering the three broad areas of Music Technology that we will have examined; recording and production techniques, principles of audio and sound technology and the development of recording and production technology. Students will also submit a three minute recording of a popular song and composition based on a brief set by the exam board. Praising Stars assessments are set throughout the course to practice and develop these essential skills.
