Course summary

The course aims to gain a broad understanding of Biomedical Science enabling progression to a variety of HE qualifications or direct employment into related medical fields e.g. paramedics, hospital laboratories and operating theatres, radiography, and nursing. You will study a variety of units and modules that include: • Principles and Applications of Science I and II • Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques • Scientific Investigation Skills • Laboratory Techniques and their Application • Contemporary Issues in Science • Investigative Projects • Physiology of Human Body Systems • Human Regulation and Reproduction • Biomedical Science • Microbiology and Microbiological Techniques • Genetics and Genetic Engineering • Disease and Infection This course is taught through classes, online learning, lab practicals, and project work. There are also some field trips and company visits. This is a 34-week full-time course with about 16 hours per week. You are also expected to do assignment work on your own time. You will study GCSE maths and English alongside if you have not already achieved a grade 4 or above in these subjects Please note: It takes 2 years to complete this full Level 3 qualification. Progression to the second year of the course is subject to achievement of the first year.
