Course summary

Fine Art is so much more than merely an aesthetic pursuit – it comprises the demonstration, exploration, and scrutiny of contemporary ideas and values through studio practice. Fine Art A level is recognized as being on par with most academic A levels because of the emphasis it places on research, conceptual depth, and critical rigor. Studying Art at A level allows you to express ideas and feelings visually with confidence and facility. Students can experiment with a wide range of techniques and media including oil, acrylic, collage, and assemblage as well as different drawing and printmaking methods. Concepts and observations are developed and refined to communicate clearly and powerfully. Students attend lectures and workshops where they will be introduced to a variety of experiences that explore a range of fine art media, processes, and techniques. They will be made aware of both traditional and new media. Students will use sketchbooks/ workbooks to underpin their work. They will explore artifacts and resources relating to a range of art, craft, and design, from the past and recent times. Areas of study include: • Drawing and painting • Mixed Media • Sculpture • Installation • Printmaking Students gain an understanding of the conventions of figurative/ representational and abstract/ nonrepresentational imagery. Students will show they know how ideas feelings and meanings can be conveyed and interpreted in images of fine art. Students can go onto Foundation Art and Design Courses and Degree Courses at university. From university students go onto careers such, as fashion, textiles, theatre design, graphic design, illustration animation, and multimedia.
