Unit 1: Practical Coursework Portfolio • Students will develop skills through practical workshops using a range of materials and themes. This work will enable students to develop a personal portfolio to develop their skills and to use for presentation for university applications if required. A course of art history lessons will be followed to explore a range of different genres and techniques used by a wide range of artists. Students will be expected to carry out re-search and write about the work of various artists. Unit 2: Trial Set task • Students select a starting point from a list of themes and carry out research and development towards a final outcome. 15 hours of unaided test to respond to initial investigations. Unit 3a: Practical coursework portfolio (external assessment) Self-directed practical study based upon a personal interest or concern. To include a final piece or pieces with supporting preliminary studies. Unit 3b: Written essay (external assessment) A written essay of at least 1000 words on a chosen art history theme. Unit 4: Set task (external assessment) • Candidates select one starting point from an early-release question paper to carry out research and development work before the final outcome. 15 hours of unaided test to respond to initial investigations through a finished piece.
