Course summary
This is a two-year course starting with a Foundation Diploma in year one converting to a full Extended Diploma in year two. The course is designed for students that wish to pursue a career in television and film with opportunities for direct access to employment/apprenticeships or higher education. The Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A levels. The course is a combination of externally and internally marked units including, factual, advertising, and social action forms with training in the use of broadcast systems and equipment. Students need to have a keen aptitude in media in all its forms and should possess a good working knowledge of film and television styles. Although not essential, a good working knowledge of still and video photography would be advantageous. A desire to progress into one of the many creative industries is clearly a must for this highly specialised qualification. Previous students have progressed both to university and directly into work including studying Media Production, Journalism and other BA Hons degrees and work for local media broadcasters, the BBC and Channel 4.
