Assessment

The AS syllabus is made up of four modules assessed through two written papers at the end of the course. The A-level syllabus is made up of six modules assessed through three written papers at the end of the course. Practical skills will be assessed through written examinations as part of AS and A-level qualifications and within a separate practical endorsement (for A-level only) The course is delivered through a range of active classroom tasks, supported by independent study. Students are expected to enter into a dialogue with teaching staff inside and outside the classroom. The course structure has the following form; AS Level • Module 1 Development of practical skills • Module 2 Foundations in Biology • Module 3 Exchange and transport • Module 4 Biodiversity, evolution and disease A Level • Modules 1-4 (the same as the AS course) • Module 5 Communication, homeostasis and energy • Module 6 Genetics, evolution and ecosystems
