Course summary

Why study Chemistry? Knowledge of Chemistry opens doors to many careers and opportunities particularly within the field of medicine. The course involves some complex mathematical problem solving so it is important that you are confident in Mathematics. What will you study? Year 12 Many of the topics you studied at GCSE are pursued in greater detail such as chemical bonding and structure, rates of reaction and organic chemistry. Organic chemistry features more prevalently as a branch of chemistry in its own right. Practical investigations form a key part of the course and will be assessed during lessons across the two years. Year 13 Modules studied in Year 12 in a qualitative way are extended in a more quantitative manner and the transition elements are studied in depth.
