This stimulating and rigorous course offers a deep dive into the principles and applications of chemistry. Students will explore topics such as atomic structure, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, and the periodic table. Emphasis is placed on understanding chemical processes, the behavior of substances, and how chemistry plays a crucial role in the world around us. Through practical investigations and theoretical study, students will develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and laboratory skills. This course provides a strong foundation for students pursuing further education and careers in chemistry, medicine, engineering, and related fields.
In addition to satisfying our Sixth Form entry requirements, students must achieve a Grade 6 in GCSE Chemistry or Grade 6-6 in GCSE Combined Science.
A Level Chemistry is assessed through a combination of knowledge-based exams and practical skill assessments, with the final grade determined by performance in the written exams. Practical skills are also assessed throughout the course, and students must complete a set of required practical activities. These contribute to the practical endorsement, which is a separate pass/fail assessment. There is no coursework component.
