Course summary

This course offers many opportunities for you to experience various aspects of the Health Care and Social Care sectors. You will explore factors that can influence human growth, development and human health. You will learn theories and models to explain and interpret behaviour through human lifespan development. You will explore both unpredictable and predictable life events, recognising how they impact on individuals. The course also offers the opportunity to understand what it’s like to work in the health and social cadre sector, exploring the responsibilities that care staff have. Issues such as safeguarding individuals and preventing discrimination are partially pertinent. The importance of accountability is explored with regards to regulatory bodies and how care staff are monitored to ensure professionalism. We shall also explore the values and principles of meeting care and support needs and will look at some of the ethical issues that arise when personalising care. We shall examine factors that can impact the professionals who provide care and support, and the challenges that must be overcome to allow access to good quality care services. Also, we shall draw upon the importance of multi-disciplinary working when providing a package of care and support that meets all needs of an individual. The course will also address caring for a full range of individuals whom have additional care needs and support. We shall look at individual’s uniqueness and wellbeing and discuss how to makes sure that individuals are treated equally, with respects and with high expectations.
