Course summary

This course concentrates on the knowledge, skills and techniques found in real-life medical science situations. It includes research, practical work and problem-solving and will build on scientific skills and knowledge of key ideas in Biology and Chemistry. In addition to students being assessed via external examination, they will build a portfolio of work which will comprise a mixture of project work, practical assessment and individual research. Applied Human Biology can be studied alongside a range of A levels or other BTEC level 3 courses. It complements the skills needed in A level Chemistry and goes well with Health & Social Care and Sport Science. The course is based on what Scientists do as a profession, rather than focusing only on separate academic subject areas. It: • Concentrates on the knowledge, skills and techniques found in Applied Biology • Includes research, practical work and problem-solving • Builds up scientific skills and knowledge of key areas in Biology and Chemistry The BTEC Level 3 Applied Human Biology course is assessed via a combination of external assessment and coursework. As they progress through the course students will produce a portfolio of work, and be assessed on practical assignments, project work and individual research.
