Course summary

In this subject, students are asked to engage creatively and critically with a wide range of texts and discourses. The English language course with AQA will be explored as a means of communication and as a topic in its own right. There is an emphasis on students’ ability to pursue lines of inquiry, analyze texts produced by others, and debate different views, as well as work independently to research aspects of language in use. Modules of study include: - Language of the Individual and Society which involves looking at textual variety and children’s language development. - Language Diversity and Change involves looking at language diversity and change over time, as well as various attitudes to it. - Language in Action which requires students to undertake two different pieces of independent research: • A language investigation (2000 words). • A piece of original writing and commentary (750 words each).
