Entry Requirements
The vast majority of Upper Fifth (Year 11) pupils at Exeter School continue into the sixth form but there has also been a long tradition of a significant number of new entrants from other schools. To qualify for entry into the Lower Sixth, applicants and current Upper Fifth pupils need to achieve a minimum of three grade 7 and three grade 6 GCSEs as well as passing GCSE English and mathematics and have a positive reference/school record (that includes conduct, attendance and punctuality). Ideally a grade 7, 8 or above at GCSE. In addition, you will need a willingness to discover the countries where the target language is spoken, a desire to debate and speak the language, an interest in current affairs as well as in the grammar and structure of languages, an eye for detail, the ability to spot patterns in words and a retentive memory for vocabulary.
