Course summary

History is a hugely enjoyable, valued and rigorous subject, which will equip students with an enhanced awareness of human motivation and dilemmas. Due to the level of respect the subject commands, its further study will assist with future applications to university and employment. The course is extremely relevant, equipping students with a real understanding of the modern world. Students will develop many skills, including the ability to communicate ideas coherently in spoken and written debate, the ability to deploy knowledge and assess the significance of events, individuals and beliefs as well as the skill of analysing different types of evidence and information and finally the ability to understand that there are few ‘correct’ answers. Students will also learn to question and reflect on what they read and are told. There is a lively classroom atmosphere, with the emphasis very much on discussion and debate.
