Course summary

Philosophy - the 'love of wisdom'. At the centre of philosophical investigation is a search for truth. Yet, as we embark on this search, we have to grapple with other questions concerning meaning and the nature of true knowledge. The AQA A level in Philosophy encompasses many such questions in its four key topics of Epistemology (the study of knowledge), Moral Philosophy (how should we live?), Metaphysics of God (the nature of God, arguments for and against God's existence, Religious Language) and Metaphysics of Mind (what do we mean by the 'mind'? What is the relationship between mind and body?). The study of Philosophy develops an enquiring mind, the ability to analyse a point of view, the ability to develop and reason through an argument, and the ability to reach a justified conclusion. As Rene Descartes said: “It is not enough to have a good mind. The main thing is to use it well.”
