Assessment

Lessons will involve class discussion in order to consolidate independent reading and note-taking. There is an emphasis on the latter as this helps pupils to make the transition to managing their own workloads at a tertiary level. Group discussion and class debate allow pupils to bridge the gap from classroom lessons to the seminars they will attend at university. The course enables superb cross-curricular links with disciplines such as History, Philosophy and Theology, Geography, English and Economics and would work well with an Extended Project Qualification on Global Politics or International Relations. The three components: Government and politics of the UK, Government and politics of the USA and comparative politics and Political Ideas are examined assessments each constituting one third of the A Level. All three papers require structured essays and the assessment, analysis and evaluation of political perspectives or an extract. This is a linear course and there is no coursework element.
