Course summary

This course will challenge you to become a contemporary theatre maker in your own right, with an exciting array of opportunities to create, perform, design, direct and critique. The vast range of transferable skills developed throughout the course will prepare you for undergraduate study and beyond. Students enjoy both the practical and theoretical components of this course, which nurture their creativity and foster a love of the performing arts. You will benefit from workshops with professional theatre companies in order to deepen your study of key practitioners and theatrical styles. We also offer a wide range of theatre trips as part of the Live Theatre review component of the course and to inspire the development of practical work. You will study a range of set texts and explore these practically and theoretically before developing your production concepts for the written paper. There are opportunities to develop design and technical skills, with support from our visiting theatre technician, as part of our numerous theatre productions. Students can also offer design as their skill for the practical components in the course. Our co-curriculum offers a plethora of opportunities to perform each year, with firm favourites being the school musical, the senior play and showcases. You can also take an active role in facilitating co-curricular drama activities for younger pupils, including directing productions and leading clubs and workshops.
