A level Business is a versatile subject which combines particularly well with other business subjects and with Law, Mathematics and Modern Languages – and, of course, it suits those who see themselves as future entrepreneurs. Students opting to embark on this course need not necessarily have any previous knowledge of the subject but should have an interest in current affairs and be numerate. Paper 1 – Business 1 • Analysing the strategic position of a business • Choosing a strategic direction • Strategic methods: how to pursue strategies • Managing strategic change • 33.3 % of A level • 2 hours examination • 100 marks • Section A has 15 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) worth 15 marks • Section B has short answer questions worth 35 marks • Sections C and D have two essay questions (choice of one from two and one from two) worth 25 marks each Paper 2 – Business 2 • Analysing the strategic position of a business • Choosing a strategic direction • Strategic methods: how to pursue strategies • Managing strategic change • 33.3% of A-level • 2 hours examination • 100 marks • Three data response compulsory questions worth approximately 33 marks each and made up of three or four-part questions.
