Assessment

We study a wide variety of topics which include food, travel, tourism, the media, leisure and the arts. You will receive guidance on using a wide range of resources including the Internet, newspapers, TV programmes, apps and books and all four language skills will overlap and complement each other with continuous reinforcement of grammar to increase confidence in accurate communication. In addition, you will be encouraged to visit Spain at some point during the course; trips to see Spanish films or plays may be arranged. Students who study a language always grow in confidence become more aware of the world around them and develop a broad understanding of current affairs. The personal enjoyment of being able to speak another language is immeasurable, as well as being able to enjoy the fruits of that cultural heritage. A Level Specification – AQA 7692 This qualification is linear. The second-year assessments are based on the following general topic areas: Aspects of Hispanic Society (Modern and traditional values, cyberspace, equal rights) Multiculturalism in Hispanic Society (Immigration, racism, integration) Artistic Culture In the Hispanic World (Modern day idols, Spanish regional identity, cultural heritage or cultural landscape) Aspects of Political Life in the Hispanic World (Today’s youth, tomorrow’s citizens, monarchies, republics and dictatorships, popular movements) Paper 1 Listening, Reading and Writing: 2 hours 30 minutes, 160 marks in total, 50% of A Level • Listening and responding to spoken passages from a range of contexts and sources covering different registers and adapting as necessary. Material will include complex factual and abstract content and questions will target main points, gist and detail. • Reading and responding to a variety of texts written for different purposes, drawn from a range of authentic sources and adapted as necessary. The material will include complex factual and abstract content and questions will target main points, gist and detail. • Translation into English. • Translation into Spanish. Paper 2 Writing: 2 hours, 90 marks in total 20% of A Level • Either one question in Spanish on a set text from a choice of two questions and one question in Spanish on a set film from a choice of two questions or two questions in Spanish on set texts from a choice of two questions on each text. Paper 3 Speaking: 21–23 minutes 60 marks in total, 30% of A Level • Discussion of a sub-theme with the discussion based on a stimulus card. • Presentation and discussion of individual research projects.
