Assessment
The AQA specification includes three assessments, as follows: Paper 1: A written examination (2 hours 30 minutes) worth 50% of the A-level, consisting of four sections: • Listening: Pupils will listen and respond to spoken passages from a range of contexts. They will have individual control of the recording • Reading: Pupils will read and respond to a variety of texts from authentic sources. All questions will be answered in the target language with verbal or non verbal responses • Translation of a passage of 100 words into English • Translation of a passage of 100 words into French/Spanish Paper 2: A written examination (2 hours) worth 30% of the A-level, comprising two 300 word essays giving a critical and analytical response to a French/Spanish set text and a set film. Paper 3: Speaking examination (21-23 minutes) worth 20% of the A-level. Pupils will discuss a theme based on a stimulus card (5-6 minutes) then give a 2 minute presentation based on individual project research followed by 10 minutes of discussion. Assessments will be conducted and recorded by the subject teacher then marked externally by an AQA examiner.
