Paper 1: Inorganic and Relevant Physical Chemistry (35% of A-Level grade). In this unit students will examine the following topics: Periodicity; Group 2 and Group 7, Properties of Period 3, Transition metals, reactions of ions in aqueous solutions, atomic structure, amount of substance, bonding, energetics, chemical equilibria, oxidation, thermodynamics, equilibrium constant, acids and bases. Paper 2: Organic and Relevant Physical Chemistry (35% of A-Level grade) • In this unit students will examine the following topics; alkanes, halogenoalkanes, alkenes, alcohols, organic analysis, isomerism, aldehydes and ketones, aromatic chemistry; amines, polymers, amino acids, NMR and chromatography, energetics, electrode potentials and electrochemical cells. Paper 3: General and Practical Principles in Chemistry (30% of A-Level grade) •In this paper, questions will draw on any of the topics covered in units 1 and 2 and will include synoptic questions that may draw on two or more different topic areas. • This paper will also include questions that assess conceptual and theoretical understanding of experimental methods that will draw on students' experience of the core practicals covered in the A-Level course.
