Course summary

Choosing IB Greek allows you to study both the oldest European language and its incredible literature in great detail. The Greek language is beautifully expressive and complex, and is the origin of 5% of words in an English speaker’s vocabulary, especially scientific and technical terms. Greek was used by some of the greatest writers in history, from the epic poet Homer to the philosopher Plato, whose literature is as influential and inspirational today as it ever has been. IB Greek allows you to see the ancient world through the eyes of the Greeks, and appreciate this unique culture which gave birth to poetry, history, science and philosophy in Europe. Students will study: • Translating Greek prose and poetry into English • Translating English prose into Greek (Higher Level only) • The work of one (SL) or two (HL) Greek writers, e.g. Thucydides, Homer, Euripides
