The pupils are entered for either the higher tier or the foundation tier with teachers making a tier recommendation, in the Summer Term of Upper Four after the examinations, to ensure that pupils are then set appropriately in Lower Five. Both tiers are examined in three 1hr 30min papers (two with calculator, one without) at the end of the Upper Five (Year 11) year. Qualifications and type of study: GCSE (9-1): Three final examinations (worth 100%) Paper 1: No calculator Paper 2: Calculator Paper 3: Calculator
