Course summary

A Level History of Art is both rewarding and challenging. It allows for deep exploration and enquiry into world civilisations and allows students to develop analytical skills, construct written arguments and enhance their visual awareness as well as communication skills as they discuss ideas around works of art and architecture with other students and teachers. The study of History of Art develops a wide range of skills which makes it an excellent combination with a variety of other subjects. It combines well with languages, and for science specialists offers an alternative discipline. It could lead to a career in media, publishing and marketing, or in the more specialised world of auction houses, the heritage and leisure industries, or education and arts administration in this country or overseas. Our proximity to central London allows us to visit galleries regularly as a group, and individually for various homework assignments. Recent destinations for study trips overseas have included New York, Paris, Florence, Rome, Venice, Moscow and St Petersburg.
