Economics
Course summary
Economics aims to answer the apparently simple question: “Who gets what in Britain, and in the wider world?” The aim of economics is to show how society uses the scarce resources at its disposal. The behaviour of firms and the role of the government are amongst the topics studied. Given this question is at the centre of almost all world events, whether it be who is going to benefit from Iraqi oil reserves, or who is going to pay for the care of an ageing population in the UK, a strong interest in current affairs is a must. The A Level in economics covers 3 main themes: 1. Markets and market failure (micro). 2. National and international economy (macro). 3. Economic principles and issues (micro and macroeconomics).
