Government and Politics

Course summary

Component 1 will examine UK politics, how elections are organised, the role of political parties and the importance of the media. The core political ideas of conservatism, liberalism and socialism will also be studied. Component 2 will examine UK government, the role of Parliament, the power of the Prime Minister and the importance of the Judiciary. Political ideology will also be studied. Component 3 will examine the institutions of the USA and the representative processes of the US political system, comparing them to those of the UK.
