Drama and Theatre Studies

Course summary

A Level Drama is highly recognised as developing students in a vast range of skills such as effective communication, confidence, expression, public speaking, leadership and teamwork. This course will consist of a study of different theatre styles, practitioners, and methodologies. There will also be study of a variety of live theatre productions. Students will understand how actors/directors/designers communicate meaning effectively through performance. The practical side of assessment comprises of the creation and realisation of a piece of devised theatre and then the exploration of three, varying scripted pieces. With the final scripted piece being performed in front of a visiting examiner. The theory work consists of two pieces of coursework, a working notebook and reflective report and then a written examination. The written examination is the study of two set pieces and live theatre seen throughout the course.
