Assessment

Component 1: Drama and Theatre (40% of A-Level) This paper will assess your knowledge and understanding of Drama and Theatre, the study of two set plays and the analysis of live theatre. This component is assessed via one written three-hour examination made up of three questions. The plays studied are likely to be 'Antigone' by Sophocles and 'Our Country's Good' by Timberlake Wertenbaker. • Assessment: Three hour written open book exam, which consists of three sections. • Section A: one question (from a choice) on one of the set plays from List A (25 marks). • Section B: one three-part question on an extract from one of the set plays from List B (30 marks). • Section C: one question (from a choice) on the work of theatre makers in a single live theatre production (25 marks). Component 2: Creating Original Drama (30% of A-Level grade) This component assesses the process of creating devised drama. You will be required to create and perform a piece of devised drama, influenced by the work and methodologies of one prescribed practitioner such as Brecht, Stanislavski, Berkoff, Artuad or Knee High. • Assessment: Controlled assessment which consists of two sections: working notebook (40 marks) and devised performance (20 marks). Component 3: Making Theatre (30% of A-Level grade) • A practical exploration and interpretation of three extracts (Extract 1, 2 and 3) each taken from a different play, the methodology of a prescribed practitioner must then be applied to one of the extracts. This extract will then be performed as a final assessed piece in front of an examiner and must be accompanied by a reflective report analysing and evaluating theatrical interpretation of all three extracts. • Assessment: This component is assessed by a visiting examiner who will grade the following areas; performance of extract (40 marks) and reflective report (20 marks).
